AEIOU believes that:
All children have the right to education and all children can learn.
Children are individuals with differing personalities, needs, wants, interests, and levels of development.
Children should have access to appropriate assessment and intervention as early as possible.
Children learn in different ways and at different rates, and benefit from programs based on individual needs.
Children are entitled to a carefully balanced program that bridges the gap between the home, AEIOU and the community.
Children require flexible routines in their daily program to accommodate the differing needs of individuals and that develops their independence and self confidence.
Individual families have the right to raise their children in ways that reflect their diverse backgrounds.
Children benefit most from families and staff working together. Parents should have the opportunity to be encouraged to share their knowledge of their children, participate in AEIOU activities and decisions, and be helped to feel that they belong to the AEIOU community.
AEIOU endeavours to achieve the highest standards for children with autism and sets goals with respect to the environment, individuals, families, program development and research.
