Teacher Assistant

Position Description

The role of the Teacher Assistant is to support the teaching and allied health specialist staff in ensuring the efficient and effective running of the group in working to meet the day to day needs of the children.

The program facilitator reports to the Centre coordinator.

KEY DUTIES

  1. To participate with the teaching team to implement the activities associated with the Star Strategy.
  2. To collect and record data on the programs delivered as instructed by the teaching staff.
  3.  To provide personal care (e.g. toileting, nappy changing and feeding) for children in accordance with regulations.
  4. To assist in the supervision of indoor/outdoor playtime for children.
  5. To contribute to the classroom organisation including the production, organisation and maintenance of appropriate curricular and teaching materials.
  6. To participate in meetings.
  7. To undertake appropriate professional development including regular supervision sessions,
  8. To support the teaching staff with curriculum planning and behaviour strategies, including using agreed intervention techniques.
  9.  To be able and willing to work as part of a team.
  10. To contribute to the review and continuous improvement activities of the organisation.

SELECTION CRITERIA

  1. Applicants must possess Certificate III in children's services
  2. Demonstrated experience in working with children with special needs
  3. Ability to participate in the development, implementation and review of programs and strategies for children with ASD.
  4. Experience in participation as a member of a team.
  5. Demonstrated high level of interpersonal and communication skills.
  6. Ability to acquire knowledge of the AEIOU program and disability services standards.
  7. Demonstrated ability to work in a self-directed environment.
  8. Current Blue Card.
  9. Senior Certificate in First Aid
